Kemeri section of the project ‘Stage 3 Jurmala water station development’ finished and solemnly opened 12.11.2015

On 11 November the newly engineered water supply and sewage network of the Kemeri section under the project ‘Stage 3 Jurmala water station development’ was solemnly opened.

During the ceremony, Janis Ledins, the deputy of Jurmala City Council and the Chair of Transport and Communal Affairs, happily admitted in his speech that the date of the opening is significant – the battle has also been won here, at the Kemeri water station section, ‘The battle is over for engineers and construction workers – everything is finished and the asphalt has been laid. Also, the battle with numerous inconveniences is over for the local citizens. I hope that from now on there will be less illegal sewage connections. I am thankful to ‘Jurmalas udens’ for undertaking this project, for complying with all environmental requirements and for doing everything to provide the locals with water supply and sewage services!

Maris Ozolins, the chairman of the board of SIA MONUM, the general constructor, thanked Jurmala City Council, the commissioner – SIA Jurmalas udens, as well as representatives of the construction supervisor for the constructive and well-managed cooperation, ‘We are proud and happy for our success: we have managed to provide a cleaner environment, better pavements and driving zone in one of the jewels of Latvia – Jurmala City. Well-ordered water basins near the sea means a less polluted Baltic Sea. For us, the constructors, it is important to show with our job that we care, that it is our responsibility to leave cleaner land to the next generations. We have succeeded, and I could not be happier today.

Aivars Kamaruts, the project manager of SIA Jurmalas udens and the head of the project implementation unit expressed his gratitude not only to Jurmala City Council, the constructors and Kemeri citizens, but also to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and the EU Cohesion fund that funded the project. “It is indeed an investment in our future – in the future of Kemeri and Jurmala!’ said Mr Kamaruts.

The total value of the project amounts to EUR 3.7 million – almost 6.7 km of water pipes and twice as many sewage networks have been constructed, as well as pump stations, 429 sewage connections and 171 water pipe connections.
