MONUM building developments are among the most valuable in Latvia 02.10.2018
The business support centre of Aloja Municipality – library SALA built by MONUM has been recognised as the most sustainable building in Latvia and has won the 1st place in the competition The Most Sustainable Building and Project 2018, sub-category Public Buildings.
Eco-friendly construction materials were used in the construction of the building, while the energy for heating of the building is provided through renewable energy technologies – a deep bore heat pump, a solar power plant and solar collectors.
The Valgunde Sports Hall, built by MONUM, has won the well-deserved 3rd prize in the category Public Buildings. The building was constructed in 2013 and it is one of the first most energy-efficient and functionally state-of-the-art sports halls in Latvia.
“Energy efficiency and sustainability are the trends in contemporary construction that are increasingly gaining in popularity. We, builders, need to think more and more about solutions that are friendly not only to people, but also to the environment. It is essential for MONUM as a forward-thinking multi-sectoral construction company to use sustainability and rational resource utilisation methods in its projects,” says Gintars Dardets, Technical Director at MONUM.
The aim of the competition is to search and highlight building developments whose value is manifested in economic operating expenses, sufficient quantity of air exchange and friendliness to the environment and people, which are determined by the use of quality materials. The competition is organised by the Association Building Design and Construction Council and industry magazines Latvijas Būvniecība (Latvian Construction) and Latvijas Architektūra (Latvian Architecture).
