MONUM objects – Sigulda State Gymnasium and wood chip boiler house in Valmiera – participate in the competition “Latvian Construction Annual Award 2020”. MONUM buildings are among 140 objects submitted in this year’s competition in 10 nominations. More information on the portal “Dienas Bizness”.

Sigulda State Gymnasium

Sigulda State Gymnasium is a unique project that combines two buildings – a new building and a Soviet-era school building, which together with the adjacent Sports Center forms a modern education and sports quarter.

The project rebuilt and modernized the school building built in 1960 (Trohaja’s building), which was combined with the new building commissioned in 2019 – the Quantum building (mathematics and natural sciences building), creating an architecturally unified image. In the 2nd round of the project, all the premises have been completely rebuilt, as well as the facade of the building has been restored. As a result of the project, the school building built during the Soviet era has acquired a new functionality and shape.

The rebuilt school building, combined with the building of mathematics and natural sciences, forms an amphitheater-shaped courtyard in the form of a semicircle, which is open in all directions and serves as a great gathering place for students both at events and everyday life. In its turn, the surrounding area of ​​the school is landscaped in an architecturally unified style with the solutions used in the 1st round of the project.

Valmiera boiler house

The project of the new boiler house in Valmiera was implemented in a previously undeveloped and swampy territory, where there were no roads and utilities at the beginning of the project. As a result of the project, the reorientation of heat production to renewable energy resources has been carried out and at the same time the urban environment has been improved. The boiler house construction project will also stabilize the heat supply tariff for Valmiera city district heating consumers, reducing the costs of heat supply in this and the next heating seasons.
