The BMX World Championship is held once a year. This year the honour of organizing this top level event went to the Rotterdam in Netherlands. The World Championship track was installed indoors in the main sports arena of the city. The track was rather narrow but sufficiently fast and technical.
Latvia was represented in Rotterdam in total by 53 participants in various age and competition categories. In the elite men’s group Latvian national team was represented by Maris Strombergs from Valmiera, who had recently become the European champion for the third time, as well as the winter of this year’s BMX European League – Edzus Treimanis. We also spotted Rihards Veide, Elvis Puroms and Klavs Lisovskis among the participants. The only national team participant in junior group was the European vice-champion Kristens Krigers, while the athlete of Saldus club “Ozoleni” Pēteris Kalnins also made a start.
