The wood chip boiler house opened in Valmiera 14.10.2020
On 14 October, the wood chip boiler house at 1 Dakstiņu Street, Valmiera was opened. The new boiler house, which has been built as an environmentally friendly heat supply system, will start operating this heating season. The operation of the boiler house will have a minimal impact on the environment, as heat generation will be ensured using renewable energy sources.
“The new wood chip boiler house is a significant project for Valmiera, which ensures the compliance of the city’s heating system with the environmental requirements of the European Union. It will not only provide the residents of the right bank of the Gauja River with heat supply, but also protect the environment. In addition, the boiler house has been built on a previously degraded area, thereby contributing to the development of the surrounding infrastructure,” Kaspars Brencis, Construction Project Manager at MONUM, emphasises the added value of the project.
The chip boiler house is equipped with the state-of-the-art technology and fitted with a 9 MW biofuel boiler and a 1.5 MW flue gas condensing economiser. The process of receiving chips in the boiler house is automated as much as possible. In the long term, this will provide high energy efficiency and help maintain consistent quality of the environment without contaminating it with dust from chips. In addition, the need for human resources to transport wood chips to the heating system is reduced.
The contracting authority of the project is Valmieras Enerģija AS (Adven). Its total cost is over EUR 6 million including VAT. The project is implemented with the EU Cohesion Fund co-financing.
