Immurement of capsule in the foundations of Sigulda Sports Hall signifies beginning of large scale construction works 15.10.2015
Today, on October 15, 2015 a capsule was immured in the foundations of Sigulda sports complex, built by ‘MONUM’ Ltd. and ‘Uzars celtniecība’ Ltd. within the partnership ‘S.J.U.C.’. The capsule contained a message for the next generations, a 1 lat coin issued during the 800th birthday celebrations of Sigulda, as well as an informative bulletin prepared by Sigulda Municipality. Construction works were already commenced in September, however the immurement of the capsule signifies a more active process.
The solemn event was attended by Ugis Mitrevics, Chairman of Sigulda Regional Council, Dainis Dukurs, the manager of the Sigulda bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track, Zints Ekmanis, a bobsleigh legend and the bronze-prize winner of the 1984 Olympics, as well as representatives on behalf of the designer and the contractor – Maris Ozolins, the Chairman of ’MONUM’, and Andris Reinhold, the project manager ’MONUM’.
During the immurement, the Chairman of Sigulda Regional Council Ugis Mitrevics said: “It has been a longstanding dream for the people of Sigulda to have a sports complex offering vast opportunities for active lifestyle enthusiasts. The road to construction works took several years and although it was tough and challenging, I am satisfied that the works have been commenced. It gives us hope that the little ones and grown-ups will already have access to a swimming pool and qualitative sports halls next year. I believe that it is only fair that the state has teamed up with the municipality to build this much-needed infrastructure. It will definitely help in adding to the 10 Olympic medals Sigulda citizens have already earned in winter sports. The sports complex will bring more revenue to the state budget from sports tourism, which, due to the active work of the Bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track, at this moment already amounts to more than one million euros.”
Participants of the event were of the same opinion that the Sigulda sports complex will serve as a sports base for Latvian athletes who are recognised world-wide due to their Olympic medals and high achievements in world-level competitions. It will also be a place for child and youth sports development and will ensure life quality for Sigulda citizens.
