Reconstruction of Sigulda State Gymnasium continues 21.02.2020
In the spring of 2018, MONUM started work on the project for construction of a new teaching block of Sigulda State Gymnasium and the reconstruction of the existing school building. The first stage of the project, the construction of the natural sciences and mathematics teaching block (the Quantum Block), was completed last summer. Work is currently underway on the second stage of the project, the reconstruction of the existing school building (the Trochee Block) at 7 Ata Kronvalda Street, as a result of which the building constructed in 1962 will be modernised.
Rita Markova – Gavrilova, Project Manager at MONUM, talks about the significant work accomplished on the project: “So far, we have completed the electrical network construction, heating and sewerage system construction, as well as the second and third floor construction in hallways and classrooms. 50 percent of the total scope of the attic storey construction work has been done when building the roof structures, including rafter reinforcement and treatment with protective agents. We have completed work on the construction of the ventilation system, as well as the wall reinforcement, repair of masonry wall cracks and installation of steel lintels above the utility systems and door openings.”
At the moment, the construction of the heating and water-supply system networks, electrical and low-voltage grid and wooden floors is also underway in the Trochee Block. Wooden structures in the attic are being reinforced and replaced and additional structures are being built. Old ventilation hatches and shafts are being dismantled. The construction of partitions in the premises of the vent chambers in the attic is going on. It is planned to start the construction of partitions and the auditorium landing on the fourth floor of the building and other general construction works as well as finishing works in the near future.
The contracting authority of the project is the Sigulda Municipality Council, and the construction supervision is carried out by Firma L4 SIA. The total project cost is EUR 12 million. It is due for completion in the summer of 2020.
