Festive opening of the Nica sports hall 20.07.2016
The new Nica sports hall was officially opened on 15 July, in the presence of many residents and visitors of Nica, as well as representatives of all the companies and authorities that were involved in the construction process. Though the year-long construction was not easy, we are pleased with the results, which will be much appreciated by active lifestyle fans in Nica. They call this newly built hall a building of the century for the Nica district.
The honourable duty of cutting the ribbon was entrusted to Agris Petermanis, Nica District Council Chair, Laura Pakule-Kruce, the construction Project Manager, Lelde Laivima, Senior Expert of the State Regional Development Agency’s Regional Development Support Department, and the MONUM team including Project Manager Kaspars Strelis and Construction Managers Talis Eltermanis and Vilnis Balams. During the opening ceremony, a capsule was placed in the hall’s wall with a message for future generations. It included publications about the construction of the hall from various newspapers of the Nica municipality and signatures of the people who have been most closely linked with the hall’s construction. Festive speeches included acknowledgements and wishes, followed by a friendly basketball game between teams from Nica and Liepaja, with Nica winning the game by four points. Other contributions to the festive mood of the event included performances by Nica amateur teams and the Riga dance group ‘Dzirnas’. In the evening, 6 teams participated in the hall’s inaugural tournament in indoor football.
The new Nica sports hall is not only convenient and modern, but also energy efficient. The reduced heat energy consumption will result in smaller carbon dioxide emissions and cheaper annual maintenance costs of the building. Meanwhile, all sports enthusiasts have already started to appreciate the comfortable layout of the premises, the hall’s colourful furnishings and the fact that the hall is connected with the school.
