MONUM has begun the reconstruction and modernization of the border crossing “Pāternieki” 14.08.2020

Construction work has begun on the border crossing “Pāternieki” in Krāslava district Piedrujas parish. Substantial work on reconstructing and modernizing the border crossing between Latvia and Belarus will be done within the project.

“We have begun to change the roofing of shelters of the border crossing. We are also beginning renovation of the facade and replacing the roof of the main building of the border crossing. Soon we will begin constructing the roads and reconstruction of structures of buildings,” MONUM project manager Andris Vējiņš briefly describes the main focus areas of construction.

To make crossing the border more modern, effective and convenient, the existing border control booths will be renovated and new ones built within the project. As bus traffic between Latvia and Belarus increases every year, the construction of a new bus passenger control terminal will be a valuable gain as a result of this project. The new terminal will greatly improve the flow of bus passengers and make it more efficient.

The shelters will be reconstructed, new road lanes and pedestrian ways will be built and road surfaces with a combined area of 15 thousand square meters will be renewed, as well as the working environment of control services will be modernized and improved. The whole border crossing design will resemble the colours of the Latvian flag.

The project has been ordered by VAS “Valsts nekustamie īpašumi” [State Real Estate] and the total costs will be more that 3 million euro, including VAT.
