“Jūrmalas siltums” opens a wood chip boiler house in Kauguri 19.02.2024
On February 15, SIA “Jūrmalas siltums” opened a new biomass boiler house in Jūrmala, Kauguri, Nometņu street 21A. With the start of its operation, the share of renewable energy resources in Jurmala’s heat supply balance has reached 70%.
The boiler house has a total capacity of 6 MW. A wood chip boiler manufactured by the Austrian company “Agro” with a capacity of 5 MW will be used for the production of thermal energy. The boiler house is equipped with an “Agro” flue gas condenser with a capacity of 1 MW to obtain additional thermal energy and an electrostatic filter to reduce the amount of emissions.
The opening of the boiler house was attended by Rita Sproģe, chairman of the Jūrmala City Council, Valdis Vītoliņš, chairman of the board of SIA “Jūrmalas siltums”, as well as representatives of the construction company and developers of the construction project involved in the implementation of the project.
“With the completion of this project, we have reached a new stage of development, significantly increasing the use of biomass in our system and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuel sources,” says Valdis Vītoliņš, chairman of the board of SIA “Jūrmalas siltums”.
The construction works were carried out by SIA “Monum”, the construction project was developed and construction supervision was provided by SIA “Firma L4”.
The project has been implemented with the co-financing of the Cohesion Fund of the European Union (EU) of the operational program “Growth and employment” 4.3.1. within the framework of the specific support objective “Promoting energy efficiency and the use of local RES in the centralized heat supply”. The total cost of the project is 5.39 million euros, of which 2.09 million euros are co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund.
