On 16 January 2026, a symbolic and meaningful event took place in Smiltene, at 3 Pļavas Street – a time capsule containing a message for future generations was ceremoniously embedded in the foundations of a new rental apartment building.

Construction works are currently underway, with the building expected to be completed by the summer of 2026, when it will become an important support for the residents of Smiltene Municipality by providing 30 new homes.

The ceremonial laying of the time capsule was attended by Aigars Vīvuliņš, Member of the Board of SIA Smiltenes NKUP; Ervins Labanovskis, Chairman of the Smiltene Municipal Council; Evita Domello, Member of the Board of SIA MONUM; as well as other representatives involved in the implementation of the project.

The project represents a significant investment in the city’s development and the well-being of its residents. It promotes the availability of modern, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces while strengthening the municipality’s economic vitality. By offering high-quality rental housing at affordable overall costs, the project aims to enhance Smiltene’s competitiveness in attracting a qualified workforce.

The new rental building will include: 7 one-room apartments (36.80–54.23 m²), 18 two-room apartments (48.15–60.70 m²), 5 three-room apartments (68.12–73.46 m²)

One apartment can be adapted for persons with special needs if required. All apartments will feature balconies. The surrounding area will be landscaped to include a recreational zone with a children’s playground. Each apartment will be allocated one free, permanent parking space.

The development of the building is the result of close and purposeful cooperation between the client SIA Smiltenes NKUP, the general contractor SIA MONUM, and the financial partner AS ALTUM. This partnership reflects a shared vision, responsibility, and a common goal: to provide the residents of Smiltene Municipality with a high-quality living environment.
