Newly constructed Kauguri biomass-fuelled boiler house solemnly opened 10.06.2016

Today, at Nometnu iela 21a, Kauguri, Jurmala City, the newly constructed Kauguri district central biomass (wood chip) boiler house was solemnly opened. The design and construction works executed by ’MONUM amounted to 5.2 million EUR excluding VAT. The solemn opening was attended by a number of Jurmala City Council staff, SIA Jurmalas siltums management, representatives of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, as well as representatives of companies involved in the construction process.

The new wood chip boiler house is the largest investment project implemented by SIA Jurmalas siltums in recent years. It is also one of the most modern boiler houses in the Baltic states. Heating will be produced by two wood chip boilers, each having 5MW capacity, produced at the Austrian manufacturer Agro, as well as a fuel gas condenser having 2MW capacity, with the help of which already decontaminated smoke will be discharged to the atmosphere, moreover – during the decontamination process additional heating will be acquired. Production of heating will be fully automatised.

’MONUM’ began construction works of the boiler house in July, 2015, and on 31 December 2015 the construction works were already finished. At the beginning of 2016 the equipment was adjusted and tested. In May 2016, the new wood chip boiler house was commissioned. Such speed of implementation was praised during the celebratory speech by Andris Jaunsleinis, Chairman of the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments. Gatis Truksnis, Chairman of Jurmala City Council, emphasised that due to the new boiler house, Jurmala citizens will have to pay less for their heating. Moreover, wood chip is environmentally friendly when used in producing heating, as it pollutes the environment less, which is a very important aspect for Jurmala as a resort city.
