Grand opening of the reconstructed Sigulda Culture Centre took place in Sigulda 18.09.2018

The grand opening of Sigulda Devon, the Sigulda Municipality Culture Centre, reconstructed by MONUM, was held on 14 September. The building incorporates unique design elements on its façade, featuring decorative panels with sandstone outcrop pattern print from the Velnala cliffs. The name of Sigulda Devon refers to the geological period, which left the traces in the Gauja sandstone layers from the time when the area of today’s Sigulda was covered by water.

“The building is unique, because during the reconstruction process we used special materials, which have little been used in Latvia before. This is a historic building which, as a result of the work performed by MONUM, has not only acquired a modern look, but also multifunctional premises with a high level of energy efficiency,” Andris Vējiņš, Project manager at MONUM points out.

The building of the Culture Centre was constructed in 1962. As a result of the reconstruction, its premises have become more modern, more spacious and equipped with the latest technology. Sigulda Devon is the place where world-class concerts and events will be held in the future. The building has outstanding acoustics with a low reverberation time, which offers the opportunity to make high-quality audio recordings and live coverage of cultural events.

The reconstructed Culture Centre is equipped with a control system which automatically regulates and manages ventilation, heating, lighting and air conditioning equipment. Such a system regulates the machinery of the cooling stations, heating units and ventilation units as necessary, thereby significantly increasing the energy efficiency of the building.
