The Sigulda Culture Centre is the most striking achievement in the sector in recent years 03.10.2018
The Sigulda Culture Centre or Sigulda Devon, reconstructed by MONUM, has taken its place among the most outstanding achievements of leading Latvian construction contractors in recent years, as evidenced by the information compiled by the Partnership of Latvian Construction Entrepreneurs in the new construction sector magazine Būvēt (Build).
“One of the successfully achieved reconstruction goals was the transformation of the Culture Centre built half a century ago into a low-energy building. After the implementation of the project, only 32.6 kWh per year will be needed for heating one square metre, and the annual savings in CO₂ emissions will amount to 44,569 kg. We express satisfaction with our environmentally friendly achievement for the benefit of the growth of Latvian regions,” says Gatis Logins, Member of the Board at MONUM.
As a result of the reconstruction implemented by MONUM, the Sigulda Culture Centre has not only undergone significant repairs for the first time since its construction in 1962, but also acquired new rooms and technical capabilities: three rehearsal rooms for the orchestra, the choir and dancers, an extended stage with a rear stage, additional spectator seats and a new extension to the warehouse for storing props, costumes and equipment. After reconstruction, the multifunctional small hall serves both as a cinema hall and as a recording studio, as well as premises for smaller events.
A motif of sandstone outcrops characteristic of the ancient valley of the Gauja River has been used in the design of the façade of the building. The visually impressive effect has been achieved thanks to the use of digital printing technology on the facing boards for the first time in Latvia.
The construction sector magazine Būvēt is the annual publication of the Partnership of Latvian Construction Entrepreneurs. The latest issue describes the trends in construction and legal framework, provides an analytical overview of the industry and presents a summary of the most striking projects of the Latvian construction contractors in recent years. The magazine is available in electronic form on the website of the Partnership of Latvian Construction Entrepreneurs:
