Sigulda Culture Centre wins the 2nd place in “Latvian Construction Industry’s Annual Award 2018” 08.03.2019

Sigulda Culture Centre (Sigulda’s Devon) reconstructed by MONUM has taken the award-winning 2nd place in the competition “Latvian Construction Industry’s Annual Award 2018”. Sigulda’s Devon has received the prestigious award in the nomination “Reconstruction” in a fierce competition among 140 initially submitted buildings in ten nominations.

As a result of the reconstruction carried out by MONUM, Sigulda Culture Centre not only experienced the first significant repair work since its erection in 1962 but also acquired new premises and technical capabilities. The building’s auditorium has been enlarged to 462 seats, it houses ergonomic chairs, the stage has been widened and modernized, a spacious dance practice hall has been built, and operations rooms fitted. The popular sound distribution brand “Meyer Sound” installed in the culture centre allows for delivering world-class concerts.

In the result of the reconstruction, Sigulda’s Devon has converted into a building with low energy consumption, equipped with a modern control system. Ventilation, heating, lighting and conditioning systems are automatically regulated and managed in the building. The greatest energy consumers – the refrigeration station, the heating unit, the ventilation equipment – are regulated by the control system according to the needs.

The visually spectacular effect of the building’s facade has been achieved by incorporating the motif of the sandstone outcrop from the Devonian era that is characteristic to the ancient Gauja valley.

The competition “Latvian Construction Industry’s Annual Award” is organized by “Building Design and Construction Council”. Its aim is to promote the quality of the building process by revealing the best buildings and the examples of best practices, as well as to promote the professional growth and the quality of work in this industry.
